L’Église unie St. Andrew’s présentera un puissant concert du jour du Souvenir mettant en vedette l’œuvre autochtone Notinikew

L’Église unie St. Andrew’s de Chatham présentera un concert émouvant du jour du Souvenir dans le cadre de sa série réputée Saturdays at 7. Le samedi 8 novembre à 19 h, le Windsor Classic Chorale interprétera Notinikew, une œuvre évocatrice du compositeur et narrateur autochtone Andrew Balfour.

Notinikew — mot cri signifiant « partir en guerre » — rend hommage aux soldats autochtones qui ont combattu pour le Canada pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Malgré leur bravoure, plusieurs sont revenus dans un pays qui leur refusait les droits mêmes qu’ils avaient défendus. Par une musique chorale bouleversante et une narration poignante, Balfour donne voix à cette histoire trop souvent oubliée, partageant « les mots et les douleurs d’une communauté et d’un destin dont on entend trop rarement parler ».

Le programme mettra en vedette le ténor Andrew Derynck de Jeanette’s Creek, le baryton Adam Iannetta, la violoncelliste Karen McClellan, ainsi que la gardienne de chants Grandma Theresa, dont les récits apportent profondeur et authenticité à la prestation.

Présenté en l’honneur du jour du Souvenir, Notinikew invite à la réflexion sur la tragédie, la réconciliation et la résilience engendrées par la guerre. St. Andrew’s United Church to Host Powerful Remembrance Day Concert Featuring Indigenous Work “Notinikew”

 

St. Andrew’s United Church in Chatham will host a moving Remembrance Day concert as part of its acclaimed Saturdays at 7 series. On Saturday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m., the Windsor Classic Chorale will present Notinikew, an evocative work by Indigenous composer and narrator Andrew Balfour.

Notinikew—Cree for “going to war”—honours Indigenous soldiers who fought for Canada in the First World War. Despite their bravery, many returned to a country that denied them the very rights they had defended. Through stirring choral music and narration, Balfour gives voice to this overlooked history, sharing “the words and woes of a community and destiny too rarely heard about.”

The program features tenor Andrew Derynck of Jeanette’s Creek, baritone Adam Iannetta, cellist Karen McClellan, and song keeper Grandma Theresa, whose storytelling adds depth and authenticity to the performance.
